RJA #14: Annotated Bibliography, Part 2

Dennis, O’Neil. “Darwin and Natural Selection.” Early Theories of Evolution (2009) :n. page. Web. 22 Nov 2009. http://anthro.palomar.edu/evolve/default.htm.

I discovered this journal article from our own research tool in our school library home page under the Lexis Nexis search engine. The article is credible considering it is a scholarly article written by an experienced professor as well as scientist, Dennis, O’Neil. This article was written in 2009 so that makes the information from this site accurate as well as reliable just for the fact that it is a recent article and contains information that is current. Another reason why the article is accurate is due to the fact of the location where I found the article. It is important to note that I acquired the journal from our school search engines and the address for the article contains a dot edu for it’s educational purposes as well as value.

“Dictionary.” Biology online. May 2009. Web. 22 Nov 2009. http://www.biology-online.org/dictionary/Natural_selection.

Some definitions I acquired to define for my paper was found under the Biology Online database on the internet. The reason why this site is trusted is because it is an international website that contains an enormous amount of information from all sciences. This site was very useful for the fact that it was an easy site to navigate with lots of information in their database and the site is regularly maintained so there is no worry about the site not being recent and accurate. The site also utilizes information found from renown schools and universities as well as professors around the world to obtain their information, thus the source that the website uses is also credible.

Leff, David. “Life of Charles Darwin.” About Darwin. 2000-2008. Web. 2 Dec 2009. http://www.aboutdarwin.com/about_01.html.

One of the sites that I found just browsing the web is a site maintained by a professor from a not so famous university but despite where he teaches, the site is nonetheless credible to me. The site is more of an encyclopedia about Charles Darwin and his life as well as accomplishments and achievements. I found a lot of general information from this site that was the backbone of my research into other scholarly sources. The website is also updated on a regular basis so the information can be accurate and although it was created in 2000 the author has made many changes throughout the years according to new information that is relevant to the topic.

Oard, Michael. “The extinction of the dinosaurs.” Answers Magazine (1997): 137-154. Web. 23 Nov 2009. http://www.answersingenesis.org/tj/v11/i2/dinosaru.asp.

Michael Oard is a college professor that also writes for Answers Magazine. He is credible because Answers Magazine is a renowned and famous magazine that is read by people all over the country. The magazine has also an outstanding reputation for its accuracy considering the magazine is dedicated to finding answers. I used the article by Oard to find information about what leads to extinction and the example of dinosaurs highly pertained to that topic. The article was written in 1997 and it is also not able to be updated, however, the accuracy of the article is apparent when read considering the enormous amount of research and sources the author used to create the article.

KocharMBBS,. “Wilderness Environmental Medicine.” BioOne (2007): n.page.Web. 2 Dec 2009. http://www.bioone.org/doi/abs/10.1580/06-weme-or-078r.1.

I used an internet database and or encyclopedia to find information about the benefits of different plants and their medicinal use. This article I found on Bio One database is highly credible because they acquire their information from famous professors as well as scientists around the world. Their opinions, facts, experiments, and information is without a doubt from professionals that are extremely credible. The information I specifically obtained from this database was written by Dr. Kochar who is a professional in cardiac issues. His opinion on why certain plants are accurate and reliable because of his experience in the field of medicine. As to the relevancy of the site, it was created in 2007 so that makes it a fairly recent article that contains accurate and recent information.

Raynar, Robert. “Travels to France.”Life of Thomas Jefferson. Boston: 1834. Print.

This book was written by Robert Raynar in 1834 and is an accurate recording of his travels, quotes, and events that happened. The recorded history and bibliography of Thomas Jefferson is credible because it is of course his life what happened in his life so there is no doubt about the credibility of the book considering the fact they were true events of what happened.

“Taxol.” Drugs. 2000-2009. Web. http://www.drugs.com/taxol.html.

A reference source I used for my paper was an internet database called Drugs.com which contain information from different pharmaceuticals and companies around the world. The accuracy and credibility of this site is not questionable considering the fact that the site utilizes their information from the pharmaceuticals and companies that develop the different types of drugs. The site is also maintained on a regular basis as well as recently updated when needed.
